The Program

What PreLit Entails

PreLit is a skills-based, early literacy preparation program for preschool children in the year before school.  It is designed to complement a play-based learning environment and provides children with a sound foundation for learning to read.

Key benefits

  • Evidence-based, best practice program for children in their year before formal schooling
  • Appropriate for all children regardless of skill level
  • Easy to adopt in an early childhood setting

Key features

The program is systematic, skills-based and taught in hierarchical sequence and designed to complement a play-based learning environment.

The main component that the Prep educators focus on is:

  • Phonological awareness
  • Oral language development through Structured Book Reading
The Prep children also have the opportunity to borrow books from our College library each week.  Preschool spends time at the library reading books and cultivating a love for reading.
